Murrieta Board Unanimously Approves New Principal, Staffing Plans and Job-Description Update

At the June 6 special meeting, trustees approved the appointment of Steven Deephouse as principal of Murrieta Valley High School, adopted certificated and classified staffing plans for 2024–25, approved a teacher assignment under Ed. Code 44263, and replaced an IBI program supervisor job description with a behavioral-support supervisor description.
Murrieta Valley Unified trustees on June 6 introduced and unanimously approved Mr Steven Deephouse as the new principal of Murrieta Valley High School. Deephouse spoke briefly after the appointment about the school’s International Baccalaureate and Career Technical Education programs, arts and athletics accomplishments, and his commitment to equity and inclusion.
The board also approved 2024–25 certificated and classified staffing plans, authorized an assignment of a high-school teacher to a departmentalized classroom under Education Code Section 44263, and adopted a revised job description renaming the IBI program supervisor role to behavioral support supervisor to reflect evolving program duties. Trustees said the changes align job duties with current practices and support students before they are identified with specific behavioral diagnoses.
All personnel motions were taken by voice vote and recorded as carried without opposition. Board members thanked staff for their work on recruitment and acknowledged community support for the new principal.
