The Tuscaloosa City Council on March 10 approved a broad consent agenda that included a comprehensive zoning amendment, an annexation, multiple contracts and permit approvals.
Staff member Zack summarized Zoning Amendment No. 28, noting the changes arise from continuing implementation of the city's new code (implemented Jan. 1, 2025) and stakeholder input; the planning and zoning commission had previously recommended unanimous approval. The council adopted the amendment by unanimous vote.
On the consent agenda the council also:
- set demolition costs and authorized a lien for the structure at 2603 22nd Street (public hearing; no speakers), - approved a more-than-30-day special retail (alcohol) license for Party Down LLC (doing business as Kuck Art Center) at 1901 Jack Warner Parkway after TPD reported no objections, - authorized a riparian easement and execution of a legal services agreement, - approved a right-of-way permit for Lexington Downs HOA and a commercial right-of-entry agreement with Charter Communications, - approved a permit for Tuscaloosa Paddle Board and tentatively awarded a public works contract to Mark Johnson Construction, - authorized CFO drafts for right-of-way acquisition on the Kicker Road sidewalk project for Jennifer Smith and Robert Elliot, - approved minor public works contracts with Civil Works Construction and Premier Service Company Inc., - authorized a professional services agreement with Plan Source Benefit Administration, - approved Amendment No. 3 to the 2025B warrant series budget and Amendment No. 7 to the general fund reserve for future improvements, - introduced an ordinance to amend exhibits A and B of section 1942 of the Tuscaloosa code by unanimous consent, and - approved annexation of approximately 58.8 acres to the city limits.
All listed consent agenda items recorded in the meeting transcript passed by unanimous votes called on the record. The council also authorized payment of the city's bills.
What happens next: Most items were approvals of contracts, permits and budget amendments. The Kicker Road sidewalk right-of-way drafts and the tentative public-works awards will move to procurement and property-acquisition follow-up steps administered by city staff.
