Council introduces and approves consent agenda that includes park grant, road and building contracts

The New Providence Borough Council read and then approved an extensive consent agenda covering grants, capital projects and routine contracts.
Key items introduced included a Green Acres grant application and award for the Oakwood Park playground renovation (cited award amount: $750,000) that will replace playground equipment, add safety surfacing, fencing and new restrooms; selection of Kier's Engineering Design Inc. for NJDOT FY2024 Maple Street design and grant administration; and a municipal-aid grant for Union Avenue improvements (the council noted a NJDOT award of roughly $281,000 but said an additional estimated $975,000 will be needed to complete a roughly $1.25 million project).
Council approved architect selection of the Museil Group for professional services for the new police headquarters project ($77,900) and accepted a design–build proposal with BlueScope Construction for a new Department of Public Works facility with an amount described in the meeting as roughly $3,832,647. The council also approved smaller contracts for roof repairs to municipal buildings (examples: Northeast Roof Maintenance, Inc., not-to-exceed $34,320; CRT Contracting & Coding, Inc., amounts of $41,385 and $6,375 were read for roof repairs to different borough buildings).
Finance read several budget insertion resolutions to reflect grant awards and settlement monies, including a CDBG ADA grant of $39,500 for recreation and other CDBG items and smaller insertions for senior services and bulletproof vest partnership funds. The clerk moved and councilors seconded a single motion to adopt agenda items 1–22; the motion carried on a roll-call vote recorded by the clerk.
Councilors said they will continue committee review of larger projects as necessary and that some items will proceed to design and bidding work this fall and construction next year where schedules were provided in the presentations.
