Vice President Alicia Reece read the proclamation commending the Vikings' defensive performance and cited the 59-28 championship victory over Hillyard Bradley. "Whereas the Vikings were led by standout performances, including Amir Gil, the state championship most valuable player who scored 24 points," Reece said while presenting the board's resolution.
Coach Bryant Wyan accepted the recognition and described the reception from the county and community as "unbelievable." "We're very humbled," he said, thanking parents, coaching staff and the players for their sacrifice and commitment.
Commissioners Stephanie Summerow Dumas and Denise Driehaus and other elected officials joined the team for photographs on the boardroom stage following the proclamation. The board noted the recognition marks the first state boys basketball championship in Princeton High School history, and members praised the program's leadership and community support.
The proclamation and photo opportunity concluded the recognition; the board then returned to its regular agenda.
