Parks commission presents master plans, Centennial Park ribbon cutting set for Oct. 25

Mike Palmer, chair of San Bruno’s Parks and Recreation Commission, presented the commission’s annual report to the City Council on Oct. 8, outlining the body’s work and priorities for 2024–25.
Palmer said commissioners completed more than 50 park visits during the 2023–24 fiscal year and reviewed several capital projects. He summarized a master plan for soccer fields on the former Crestmore High School site that is linked to a sale and development proposal and said the plan drew significant input from local soccer organizations.
The commission reported progress on the Florida Avenue Park completion and said Centennial Park is nearly finished; the council was invited to a celebration on Friday, Oct. 25, with entertainment at 3:30 p.m. and a 4 p.m. ribbon cutting. Palmer also described a successful pilot to add pickleball striping to existing tennis and basketball courts and noted continued commissioner involvement in the Recreation and Aquatic Center’s construction advisory board.
Palmer announced the commission’s 2024 community recognition award recipient, Jean Johnson, and described her long‑running volunteer work with the Friends of the San Bruno Library. Council members thanked the commission and praised longtime commissioner service.
Palmer closed by listing the commission’s goals for the coming fiscal year, including input on the El Camino unification project, park assessment review, and an update to Parks and Recreation bylaws.
