Antioch officials warn 'Build Illinois' proposals could curtail local zoning, consider unified municipal response

Administrator Likman told the board the proposals could be "seismic" to local zoning authority and urged trustees to consider a resolution opposing the package or preparing legal and lobbying responses in concert with the Illinois Municipal League. "This is really a big deal for local governments and municipalities across the state," Likman said, noting that several municipalities are already discussing formal opposition and that a model resolution is available.
Trustees expressed a range of views: some urged a coordinated legal response if the bills progress in Springfield, while others questioned near‑term tactical options such as changing local lot‑size rules to harden local controls. Staff committed to supply additional information and circulate a model resolution to consider at a future board meeting.
