The South Brunswick Board of Education voted to approve its consent agenda on March 5, 2026, in a roll-call vote that the board recorded as 8–0, with one member absent. The consent agenda covered a bills list; allocations for ISA/ISSA grants; a transportation contract; changes to the current school-year calendar and approval of the 2026–27 calendar for review/approval; harassment, intimidation and bullying reports; a student field trip report; a resolution on travel-related expense reimbursement; and personnel items including a sidebar to support a nurse pursuing instructional certification.
Board President Laura Hernandez said the board is "well-versed" on the items before voting, noting that questions and deliberations occur before public meetings. The board then conducted a roll-call vote with votes recorded as follows: Laura Hernandez (yes); Deep McCarthik (absent); Alicia Khan (yes); Raja Krishna (yes); Mike Mitchell (yes); Barry Nathansson (yes); Deon Patel (yes); Dr. Smith Raj (yes); Rajes (yes). The motion carried.
As part of the superintendent’s report earlier in the meeting, the district said it received about 400 preschool applications and expects roughly 270 seats for September; parents will be notified of lottery results by April 20. The superintendent also announced make-up/calendar days for the current year: schools in session Monday, March 30, and early-release days April 6 and April 7.
No members of the public spoke during the public-comment period; the district noted three people in the audience who were district employees. The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at Crossroads North.
