Oak Lawn Football Field named Utah sports-field of the year; North Ogden parks honored

The North Ogden parks department was honored at the May 12 City Council meeting after the Utah Recreation and Parks Association (URPA) and the Sports Field Managers Association named Oak Lawn Football Field the state’s Sports Field of the Year.
Mikael Christiansen, assistant executive director for URPA, said the award recognizes turf care, multisession use, sustainability and strong youth and family programming. “The committee was very impressed with the multi-season use and the gathering place it is all year,” Christiansen said.
The council and the mayor recognized the parks crew—John staff photos and then parks staff thanked the council for the support that made the award possible. A parks representative said the recognition “comes from everybody” and that the award reflects citywide support for parks and recreation programming.
Council members briefly praised the parks staff and invited the department to accept the award in person. The recognition was presented early in the meeting; no vote or formal action was attached to the presentation.
