Boston City Council approves series of grants, small appropriations and hearing orders

The Boston City Council on March 18 approved a series of dockets including collective-bargaining appropriations, neighborhood grants and a large Community Preservation Fund appropriation, and filed a slate of hearing orders across committees.
As chair of the committee on Ways and Means, Councilor Weber sought suspension and passage of Dockets 0567 and 0568, which cover fiscal adjustments and a $33,759 supplemental appropriation to cover contract terms for Property Management employees in the New England Police Benevolent Association Local 174. The council adopted both dockets by roll-call vote (each recorded as receiving 12 affirmative votes in the transcript).
Clerk readings and committee referrals during the meeting included a $32.6 million Community Preservation Fund appropriation (Docket 0569) referred to the Community Preservation Act committee and school window-and-door appropriations (Dockets 0570 and 0571) referred to Ways and Means. The council also adopted several smaller grant dockets (0572 through 0578) for neighborhood older-adult programming, energy-efficiency outreach and workforce development, with recorded affirmative roll-call results.
Several hearing orders were filed and sent to committees: a City Services hearing on rodent control and leptospirosis (Docket 0281) will remain in committee; Planning, Development and Transportation will keep hearings on construction costs and government accountability (Dockets 0199 and 0205); committees were also assigned hearings on telehealth access, primary care availability, tax-assessment practices and higher-education governance.
Councilors emphasized the urgency of some items during budget season and upcoming major events (for example, hearings related to transportation funding deadlines and nightlife-safety measures ahead of international events); where votes were recorded the clerk announced the tallies during the meeting.
