The Haines Borough Parks and Recreation Committee voted March 11 to forward two applications to the mayor for appointment to open Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee seats.
Summer Lynch introduced herself to the committee, saying she was raised in Haines and has three children. "Outdoor recreation was a huge part of my childhood... I would like to see my children, future generations of Haines families have access to outdoor opportunities," Summer said. The committee asked a few background questions about her children and experience and then moved to forward her application to the mayor for assembly approval.
Darcy Colbeck also spoke and told the committee she is "excited to continue on" and hopes to help the committee advance the next phase of several projects. The committee moved and voted to forward Darcy's application as well.
Both nominations will go to the mayor and, if the mayor forwards them, to the assembly for final appointment. The committee did not conduct internal officer elections at this meeting and postponed elections until more members are present.
