Students advance to regional music festivals, board praises performances

The Punxsutawney Area School District recognized music students on March 9 for recent achievements in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association festival system.
Band director Kurt Cessna introduced five students who auditioned at district band, noting two—Nova Shrekenos (tuba) and Jacob Bowser (trumpet)—will advance to Region Band in Erie on March 19. Choir director Erin Neper credited directors and guest clinicians for a positive audition and festival experience; two choir students advanced to region choir.
The board also heard that proceeds and donations from a recent production will fund an estimated 40 backpacks for students in need through a district service project. Board members applauded the students’ performances and wished them luck at upcoming events.
The recognitions were delivered during the student board report portion of the meeting and received applause from the audience.
