Volunteers report 200 trees planted; Main Street wins concert-series grant

Volunteers from the local tree-planting initiative reported to the commission that they have planted roughly 200 trees over three public events during the past year and that volunteer levels have varied from 45 to 70 per event.
"We are at over 200 trees given away and 200 trees planted," Laura Kek said, describing an 80-tree giveaway for the public and an upcoming Dec. 6 planting at Ralph Edwards Park. The group said it operates under a five-year grant with three years remaining to expand plantings and education.
Becca from Main Street told the commission the organization received a multi-year concert grant (referred to in the record as the "Lever/Levit" grant) to produce three years of concerts in Ralph Edwards Park, with plans for diverse, family-friendly programming and downtown event support. Main Street also summarized recent and upcoming downtown events, the Parade of Lights and small-business Saturday plans for Nov. 29.
Next steps: the tree organizers will host the giveaway and planting events, and Main Street will begin planning the concert series with community partners and additional event logistics.
