The Elyria City School Board on April 1 accepted a donation from the William Millie Trust for more than $12,000 to support the high school performing arts center and heard a treasurer’s report that outlined a clean fiscal year 25 audit and identified savings for the district’s reduction plan.
Treasurer Colleen Ald announced the trust’s gift “for the performing arts center for the high school,” saying the funds will be used to buy a replacement soundboard after the prior unit “kind of bit the dust after 15 years.” The board moved, seconded and approved the treasurer’s recommended action items by roll call.
Ald also told the board the FY25 audit was completed with a clean opinion and two management letters related to multifactor identification for two software systems the district is in the process of remediating. She reported identified savings for fiscal year 26 of $170,798. The transcript contains garbled figures for additional next-year savings and a total; those amounts were not stated clearly on the record.
On the topic of a possible levy, Ald said that if the district places a measure on the November ballot, the board would need two resolutions by August and recommended preparing a resolution in June that would include the millage amount once staff finalizes the forecast. She said she would update the forecast unofficially in May and present final figures as needed.
No formal vote is required to accept the audit; acceptance of the donation and approval of treasurer items occurred during the regular consent and action votes.
