Elk Grove Unified board proclaims voter-education and two heritage months; affirms expulsions

The Elk Grove Unified School District board unanimously adopted several ceremonial and procedural resolutions at its August meeting.
Mr. Schwitzer presented Resolution No. 16, citing California Education Code 49040, asking the board to declare Sept. 15–26, 2025 as high school voter education week; the board approved the resolution following a motion by Mr. Yang and a second by Miss Ballerini. The board also adopted Resolution No. 17 designating October 2025 as Filipino American History Month and Resolution No. 18 recognizing Sept. 15–Oct. 15, 2025 as Hispanic Heritage Month. During discussion on the Hispanic Heritage Month resolution, Miss Baldwin expressed solidarity with immigrant families and reminded the public of legal protections and district supports in response to recent reports of immigration enforcement activity.
Later in the meeting the board approved recommendations related to student expulsions and requests for return from expulsion. Board President Vargas confirmed there were no speakers from the public addressing expulsions in closed session before the motions were moved and carried unanimously.
