Schererville council signs off on biosolids, Burr Street final payments and proclaims Telecommunicators Week

At its April 8 meeting the Schererville Town Council approved several contract close‑out items and routine recognitions.
The council accepted change order No. 5 from Haase Construction Co. for $1,831.92 related to conduit and lighting issues on the biosolids building project and approved remaining pay requests as the project nears final closeout.
For the Burr Street Reconstruction Project (2025) the council approved a contract balance order No. 2 for $27,532.70 to M&J Underground — largely to cover soil remediation and water‑main work — and approved pay request No. 7 (final) for $305,039.03 to the same contractor to close the contract. Council members were told additional small pay requests remain to formally close projects and to preserve eligibility for future CCMG matching grants.
Earlier in the meeting the utility board reported that the biosolids building at the wastewater treatment plant is complete with only punch‑list landscaping and cleanup items remaining.
On recognition items the council read and adopted a proclamation declaring April 12–18, 2026 National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in Schererville and Cedar Lake, and it accepted $1,973.91 in monetary and in‑kind donations collected in March (notably about $1,633.91 in in‑kind animal control supplies). All votes on these items were unanimous, 4–0.
What happens next: staff will process final pay requests and closeout documentation; public works will finish punch‑list items for the biosolids building; donations will be recorded and used as designated.
