The Menlo Park Library Commission used its Nov. 17 meeting to set near‑term milestones for its approved 2025–26 work plan and to approve a draft 2026 commission meeting calendar.
Commissioners discussed timing so that the commission’s short‑term requests (for example, information about identified capital or facility concerns such as HVAC, carpeting and bathrooms) can be considered during the city’s budget preparation schedule. Staff explained the city’s budget timeline — initial budget work in January–March and council presentations in April–June — and recommended subcommittee and staff updates timed to inform any requests before the formal budget cycle.
Commissioners agreed that the ad hoc subcommittee assigned to Belhaven outreach and other work‑plan subcommittees should report by the January meeting with at least a one‑page summary or verbal update; some items will require coordination with Public Works or city council liaisons, which may affect precise timing. Staff noted a forthcoming cost‑of‑services study and pledged to provide more detailed budget and staffing breakout information early next year.
On a separate motion, the commission approved its 2026 meeting calendar (regular meetings are scheduled for the third Monday of each month, with a few date shifts for holidays). Commissioner Crockett moved to approve the calendar; Vice Chair Westcott seconded and the motion passed unanimously by roll call.
The commission also approved the October 20, 2025 minutes during the meeting. The next scheduled steps are subcommittee reportbacks and staff follow‑up on clarified statistics and budget information in January and February 2026, to allow the commission to consider any requests ahead of the budget presentations to the City Council.
