On SmartScale, the board approved a resolution supporting a candidate pre‑application and eventual full application for a turn‑lane improvement on Route 89 (Skyland Highway) and Route 618 (Mount Bell Road). The resolution cites the candidate pre‑application deadline of April 1, 2026 and the full application deadline of Aug. 1, 2026, and asks the Commonwealth Transportation Board and VDOT to consider funding the project.
Separately, staff described a VDOT mapping correction for secondary Route 890 made necessary by reconstruction improving access to the corrections facility. Members noted a discrepancy in the facility name used in draft language (the draft referenced "Mount Rogers medium security" while staff said the proper facility name is River North correctional facility); the board confirmed it would correct the language and approved the mapping resolution as a formality once the wording is fixed.
Board members discussed drainage and ditching work on tar‑and‑chip projects and asked staff to prioritize fairness across districts when selecting routes. The board set a public hearing on V-SSYP recommendations for May 14.
