At the March 17 Marion City Council work session, staff presented several agenda items for the upcoming council packet.
Sewer-bill credit (D10): Staff recounted a resident who received a roughly $3,000 sewer portion on a bill after an irrigation line was left running; because the water reportedly did not flow into the sewer system, staff recommended a $2,000 credit to the sewer portion of the bill and proposed modifying the ordinance so similar customer‑service adjustments could be handled administratively in the future. Staff said the water bill itself remains a water board matter and that a resident could still appeal to council if dissatisfied.
Pole yard expansion and landscaping (E3): Planning staff briefed the council on a three‑phase pole yard expansion by the utility formerly known as Lynn County RECC and now called Corridor Energy Cooperative. The first phase in 2026 includes landscaping with about 78 trees along Highway 13, a decorative 10‑foot steel fence with periodic brick columns, and screening to hide a future substation; the Planning & Zoning Commission recommended approval and later phases (operations building ~2031, substation ~2036) will return for final site review.
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) disaster recovery funds: Staff confirmed a council member’s question that the funds flow from a state grant and that Marion functions as an administrative pass‑through for the awards.
All three items were discussed as agenda-review topics and will appear on the council packet for action or further review at the regular meeting.
