The resolution cites Plyler v. Doe (1982) and federal guidance acknowledging schools as sensitive locations for enforcement actions.
Trustees discussed legal limits if immigration authorities present a warrant. District counsel and staff clarified that valid warrants remain enforceable; the district’s procedures instead establish internal steps (notify superintendent, consult legal counsel, follow a prepared script) to ensure legal compliance while minimizing disruption and protecting student privacy. The board emphasized that the resolution does not direct staff to obstruct law enforcement.
