Jody Kenny took the oath of office during a Mayor and Council meeting in Belmar, pledging to support the constitutions of the United States and the state of New Jersey and to perform her duties impartially.
Before the oath, Commissioner Tom Mon addressed the council and attendees, saying, “on behalf of sheriff golden and myself it's an honor to be here,” and offered support for Kenny as she assumed her seat. Kenny then recited the oath: “I Jody Kenny do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States the Constitution of the United States and the constitution of the state of New Jersey … and that I will faithfully impartially and justly perform all the duties as councilwoman to the best of my ability so help me God.” The assembly applauded following the oath.
The swearing-in occurred at the opening of the meeting; the council then proceeded to organization items, including leadership nominations and routine business.
No formal policy decisions accompanied the oath. The council acknowledged the ceremonial nature of the event and moved on to committee and consent-agenda business later in the meeting.
