Ventnor City officials praised the Public Works crew for an extensive snow response and heard a detailed account of operations at the Feb. 13 commission meeting.
During reports, a council member commended Rick and the DPW crew for clearing streets after the recent storm. Rick described preparation and a 24-hour operational tempo: staging equipment, loading plows and salt spreaders, brining county roads that run through the city, and prioritizing access to fire stations and City Hall so emergency services could operate safely.
"We were actually on duty around the clock," Rick said, describing continuous plowing until pavement was visible and noting the crew took measures to assist residents with special needs, such as dialysis patients. He explained brining reduces adhesion and helps plows keep pavement clearer by limiting ice buildup.
Public Works staff also staged equipment at strategic locations (near ball fields and the library) to speed response times and described limitations on storage for salt and ice melter supplies that affect readiness. John Connor, identified on the record as the street supervisor, was credited with orchestrating the operation.
Councilmembers expressed appreciation for the crew’s performance, noting no accidents, equipment damage or injuries occurred during this storm. The commission thanked Public Works and moved on to other agenda items.
