Ventnor City approves two firefighter hires, clears multiple event and contract resolutions

The Ventnor City Commission approved the hiring of two firefighters and adopted a series of consent resolutions at its Feb. 13 meeting.
Mayor Kel called the meeting to order and the commission confirmed a quorum with Commissioner Mento present and Commissioner Langra absent. The body voted to hire Nicholas LaCava after a motion, second and roll call in which Commissioner Mento and Mayor Kel recorded yes votes; the hire was followed by a ceremonial photo opportunity. The commission then approved resolution 075 hiring William Tillis as a firefighter in a similarly recorded roll call vote.
The commission moved through a set of consent items that city staff described as routine and similar to last year’s approvals: road-closure and no-parking authorizations for seasonal events (including the seafood festival, holiday parade, fireworks display, color run and farmers market), waivers of fees for city-sponsored events, and several tax refunds. The council also placed several contracts and project authorizations on consent.
Among those was a management services contract for water-tower repair and repainting with Remington & Vernick, described on the record as “not to exceed $143,000.” The council also authorized engineering services for a brick-facade at a well site with a not-to-exceed amount of $3,500, and accepted final design and specifications for a lead service line replacement phase in Ventnor Heights prepared by TetraTech.
Councilmembers also approved a renewal of the city’s short-term rental monitoring service, noting the vendor Host Compliance has been acquired by Granicus LLC and the contract will continue under the new name. A final change order closing out the Winchester Avenue bulkhead project was reported as complete.
All items were handled as consent unless otherwise noted; the mayor and commissioners thanked staff and the DPW crew for ongoing operational work. The commission opened the workshop public portion for comment but received no public testimony on these agenda items.
The meeting moved on to presentations and other business after the consent agenda; the commission scheduled a professional-design kickoff meeting for a student-originated Eco Park concept but made no formal commitment to construction.
