The Brookline School Committee interviewed finalist Aaron Osborne and then voted to appoint him deputy superintendent for finance and administration, delegating negotiation of his contract to the committee chair.
Aaron Osborne, introduced as a finalist for the deputy superintendent for business and finance role, summarized his background: "I am currently the director of finance and operations at Berlin Boylston Regional Schools," he told the committee, and described experience with municipal and regional districts, grant management, transportation oversight and human resources. Committee members asked questions about transportation logistics, human resources experience and fiscal systems; Osborne described experience with Infinite Visions and similar financial systems and said he has been involved in grant writing and budget transfers in prior roles.
After the interview the committee considered options for appointment and contract negotiation. One member moved "that we offer the position to Aaron as described and to delegate negotiation of the contract to the chair," and another member seconded the motion. The chair called the roll for a voice vote; members recorded their votes in the meeting, and the motion passed with the committee voting to appoint Mr. Osborne.
The committee recorded affirmative votes from members who answered individually during roll call. Following the vote, members congratulated Mr. Osborne and discussed next steps: the chair will negotiate contract terms (with possible support) and, if required, return to the committee for final approval of the written contract. The committee then proceeded to other business and adjourned later in the meeting.
