Absecon city officials reported a cluster of street and accessibility projects moving toward construction as bids and grant decisions approach.
City engineer Ed told the council the Crestview Avenue project is currently out to bid and staff expect to be in position to approve a bid by the end of the month. He said Colon Avenue repaving is scheduled to start about July 15 and will include new drainage intended to reduce flooding at the New Jersey Avenue/Highland Boulevard intersection.
Ed said PR Avenue phase one — a sidewalk project — is out to bid, with bids opening July 16. He advised the council that because the city has only one regular meeting in July it may call a special or emergency meeting to expedite awarding the contract so work is not delayed.
Council and staff also discussed a CDBG application that would fund an accessible ramp and rear steps behind City Hall. Staff said the city updated its application to request a larger project after program guidance shifted to favor larger competitive projects; a formal award notice is pending. The city noted it has supplemental budget funds to support the work if the grant is awarded.
Councilmembers requested follow-up from staff on grant award timing and on scheduling a possible special meeting for bid approvals.
