Council hears updates on Shore Road, tennis-court renovations, budget and public-safety statistics

On Sept. 19, Absecon City councilmembers received routine but substantive operational updates covering public works projects, parks renovations, the city budget and public-safety activity.
Public Works: Council member Maron praised the public-works team for recent event support and reported ongoing efforts to raise Shore Road to reduce monthly flood closures; he said the city will continue pressing the county for engineering work to complete the right-of-way steps. Maron also described follow-up about a stop line/stop-sign relocation near Seaside Avenue to address sight-line and driveway issues.
Tennis courts and parks: Councilmembers gave details on the tennis-court renovation: courts were closed Sept. 13 through Nov. 12 while contractors complete work. The engineer, Ed, said a 30-day waiting period is required before painting to allow new surfacing to settle; painting is expected mid-October and crews will install nets and fencing in the meantime. Two pickleball courts will be included with different interior colors noted.
Budget and finance: Officials said the general fund budget is roughly 77% expended for the year; a small number of contracts will require action before year-end. Jessica (CFO/administrator) provided the finance overview and noted upcoming agenda items tied to contracts.
Public safety: The Chief reported August activity totals: 2,940 calls for service, 565 traffic-enforcement actions, 36 motor-vehicle accidents, 52 arrests and about 21 burglary/theft complaints. He urged residents to lock vehicles and report suspicious activity.
Other announcements: Councilwoman Parker promoted 'Creed Fest' (Saturday, 1–8 p.m., shuttles available; three bands and 13 food trucks). The mayor thanked Outley School staff for a Sept. 11 ceremony and noted a county-run free adult flu clinic on Oct. 21 at St. Elizabeth (10 a.m.–noon). A public commenter, identifying as 'Isa hson,' raised neighborhood driveway and turning-safety concerns and said he had discussed the matter with Lloyd, the public-works director.
No formal policy votes were taken on the project updates during the meeting; councilmembers generally directed staff to continue coordination with county agencies and contractors.
