State approves Castleton Park diversion; township readies easement for Synokco valve upgrade

Township staff told the Franklin Township Open Space Advisory Committee on Jan. 20 that the diversion at Castleton Park secured approval from the State House Commission on Dec. 15 and that the next step is finalizing a permanent surface easement with Synokco.
The easement would grant Synokco the right to replace an existing manual valve with a remotely controlled valve; the township attorney reviewed and revised the easement language, and staff said the measure will be transmitted to the township council for approval before filing to complete the project.
Committee members confirmed that the Shade Tree Commission and Public Works have been given maps of the diversion area and that those departments are aware of the plan as it moves forward. No formal council action occurred at the open-space meeting; staff framed the item as an update and said administrative completion depends on council approval of the easement.
The committee did not record a vote on the easement; staff said the council will consider the easement at a future meeting.
