Council passes motor-fuel-tax resolution, holds first reading on term limits and enters executive session

The Washington City Council on Jan. 21 unanimously approved a resolution authorizing use of motor fuel tax funds to meet Illinois Department of Transportation maintenance requirements. The resolution was approved by synopsis and required no additional action or financial appropriation during the meeting.
Council also held the first reading of an ordinance that would impose term limits for the offices of alderpersons and mayor; the ordinance was introduced by staff but no final vote was taken. The reading places the subject on the council’s future agenda for subsequent consideration.
Later in the meeting the council voted unanimously to enter executive session under 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1) to consider employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees. The mayor and council members voted to move into executive session; the meeting record notes that "there's no action coming out" of the session at the time the public meeting closed.
Separately, council members asked questions about procedures for capturing questions and answers at an upcoming amphitheater open house; staff said comment cards will be available and groups may submit lists of questions, but details on transcription and recording were not finalized during the discussion.
The council also recognized Jessica Wentz of Lincoln Grade School District 52 for receiving a national Milken Educator Award, the first in that district’s history.
