Commissioners adopt Crystal Lake repair resolution and approve zoning change for Compassion Homes; Meijer 425 hearing noted

At its April 27 meeting the Barry County Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution authorizing expenditures for maintenance of the Crystal Lake level project, approved a zoning text amendment affecting Compassion Homes and acknowledged an upcoming township hearing related to a proposed Meijer site.
Drain Commissioner Jim Dull presented Resolution #25-16 authorizing expenditures for maintenance and repair of the Crystal Lake lake-level project with a spending cap "not to exceed 3%"; the board adopted the resolution by recorded vote. A representative of the Crystal Lake Improvement Association had earlier thanked the board for considering related expenditures.
Planning and Zoning Director Jeff Keesler presented a zoning text amendment to designate Compassion Homes as a special land use in the RR (Rural Residential) and A (Agricultural) zoning districts; the board approved the amendment unanimously.
Chair David Jackson noted the Rutland Charter Township will hold a public hearing on a 425 Agreement between the township and the City of Hastings regarding the proposed Meijer location; Vice-Chair David Hatfield said the Hastings City Council was expected to approve the city's portion the same evening and that, if both jurisdictions approve, the Joint Planning Commission will proceed with site-plan review.
All motions recorded in these items passed with Ayes: Bassett, Campbell, Hatfield, Jackson, Smelker and Teunessen; absent: Callton and Getty.
The board did not take further county-level action on the Meijer site at this meeting; the public hearing and subsequent local approvals will determine whether the planning commission advances site review.
