Anderson City Airport board approves routine items, hears traffic and project updates

At a meeting of the Anderson City Airport Board, members approved routine minutes and claims and received operations and project updates.

Shaggy Ramsey reported that fuel flowage so far this year is about 75% higher than at the same point in 2025 and that airport traffic counts are about 34% higher, attributing some of the rise to favorable February weather. "We're on an upward trend," Ramsey said.

The board heard a manager's report that final striping for last year’s terminal apron project was delayed by weather and is expected either this coming Friday or next week, after which that project will be closed. The Tango Tax Lane rehabilitation remains in the design phase; bidding for that project is planned for January 2027.

Rose, who is leading planning for the July 3 air spectacular, said the event’s pilots and program elements are in place but fundraising is lagging. She said the event aims to raise $25,000 and has secured about $5,000 to $6,000 so far and a few sponsors; the city will add a donation link on its website to try to encourage smaller online gifts. "That's our goal — 25," Rose said.

Board members were told staff are preparing a task order for a box-hangar design-build to present at the next board meeting. The project will use remaining build funds, and staff are preparing a brief criteria package to meet FAA funding requirements, with the criteria expected to be finished by the end of April.

The manager introduced Nikki from CHA’s planning team; Nikki said she has been with CHA for about eight and a half years and has handled grant administration that has involved Anderson projects. Nikki said she looks forward to working more closely with the board.

The meeting opened with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance, covered routine roll call and administrative business, and adjourned after a brief final motion.
