Parent tells Redondo Beach Unified board she found explicit videos on school Chromebooks; superintendent pledges IT follow‑up

At the Redondo Beach Unified Board meeting, parent Monique Grant told the board she had found explicit sexual material — which she described as "hard porn and soft porn" — accessible on students’ school Chromebooks while reviewing content at home.

"There is hard porn and soft porn access on YouTube on our kids' school Chromebooks," Grant said during public comment, and asked the district to investigate. She said the material appeared on devices used by children as young as eight and described specific videos she had encountered while using the Chromebook search function.

The board did not engage in substantive discussion on the spot due to Brown Act restrictions on discussing items not on the agenda, but Superintendent Dr. Wesley responded at the meeting's communications segment that he would follow up. "I'll work with Susanna Garcia and the IT team to follow up with the last parent comment," he said, committing to staff investigation and a report back to the board.

Earlier in the meeting, district staff and a teachers’ association representative had described IT supports and filtering work; Tracy Kelly of RBTA thanked the IT department for its role in monitoring and, in general comments, praised staff who maintain filters and perform Chromebook maintenance.

The board did not announce any immediate policy changes or votes at the meeting related to the complaint. Members noted that comments not on the agenda may be investigated by administration and reported to the board at a future meeting.
