Board hears LCAP feedback and staff plans to expand CTE pathways at Salazar

At the May 20 meeting, district staff presented results of LCAP (Local Control and Accountability Plan) partner engagement and proposed next steps for the plan and for career‑technical offerings.
Staff reported three public partner meetings, online surveys collecting 294 parent responses, 2,211 student responses and 264 staff responses, and additional DAC/DACA review sessions. The presentation outlined five LCAP goals: conditions of learning, engagement, pupil outcomes, supports for English learners, and an equity multiplier focused on targeted sites (Salazar and the virtual academy).
Parents and stakeholders flagged safety and mental‑health supports as priorities (requests included more counselors, clearer descriptions of wellness centers and, in some comments, security equipment). Staff said much of the feedback will be incorporated into revisions; they plan to post the draft for public viewing June 2–13, hold a hearing June 17 and submit the plan for approval June 24.
On career and technical education, staff described plans to expand Salazar’s pathways: the health pathway will be enlarged, and Salazar will add a second pathway (child‑development) with certificate opportunities; staff also said possible future pathways under discussion include media/technology in partnership with Tri Cities and Rio Hondo. Trustees asked staff to follow up with Tri Cities and to explore options that can be implemented without major new facilities, such as esports and dual‑enrollment options.
What happens next: Staff will return with LCAP revisions at the end of May, post the draft for public comment in early June, and present the public hearing on June 17 ahead of final board action scheduled June 24. CTE pathway development will proceed with partner outreach and a plan to phase in two full pathways at Salazar next school year.
