At a public hearing April 6, the Austin City Council reviewed a tax abatement application for a project identified as Big Low and Lennon. Staff member Craig said the application arrived Feb. 20 but a building permit issued Feb. 25, which departs from the city's practice of securing abatement approval before a permit is issued. Craig recommended approving the abatement contingent upon verification that construction had not started and that the applicant submit a new building permit through the city.
Craig also said the estimated project value is $400,000. No members of the public spoke on the item, and council adopted the resolution with the contingency language by roll call vote.
The council’s action was procedural: it approved the abatement subject to staff verification that the project remains eligible under the city's housing abatement policy and that construction had not begun before approval.
