The Los Angeles City Council recognized employees of BFI for their role in a June 7 rescue at the Sunshine Canyon landfill, where a displaced 8-year-old boy was located and later reunited with his mother.
Councilmember Chick introduced BFI representatives and said the company donated phones, vehicles and staff and provided a command center that helped Los Angeles Police Department and county rescue teams in the search. "BFI found the small boy, fed him, and called the police," Chick said as the council presented a certificate of appreciation.
A BFI representative who accepted the recognition described the outcome as "a positive one" and thanked city and county agencies for their partnership during the search. The council recorded the commendatory resolutions and moved on to other agenda items.
The presentation underscored private-sector support for emergency response: speakers emphasized coordination between BFI employees and law enforcement during the multi-agency search.
