PVUSD board approves emergency resolution to help families displaced by Portuguese Bend landslide

The resolution authorizes expedited transfers to district schools that are not affected by the landslide and waives standard deadlines and procedural requirements under AR 5116.1. The district will provide transportation assistance where McKinney‑Vento services apply and will make counseling and academic support available to impacted students regardless of school of attendance.
"If this was to pass we would make it effective immediately and be responding as the requests come in," a district official said during board questions. Staff clarified that transfers will be handled on a first‑come, first‑served basis when space is limited and that displaced families will later be asked whether they wish to remain at the receiving site or return when their home school is accessible.
The board voted 5‑0 to approve the resolution; the superintendent is authorized to take actions necessary to implement it. The resolution will remain in effect until conditions allow students to return to their origin schools without limiting access or district rezoning.
Next steps: Enrollment center staff will flag displaced students in the district system, accept expedited transfer requests and communicate options to affected families.
