Clerk demonstrates new online legislation tracker to centralize ordinance status

At the start of the March 31 meeting the clerk (Mike, speaker 1) demonstrated a new legislation tracker intended to serve as a single, public-facing view of all ordinances: their ordinance numbers, descriptions, committee assignment and adoption status. The clerk described color coding for adopted, active, and committee-stage items and said the tool will be posted with clerk's reports and developed further into a database with hyperlinks to ordinance text and hearing history.
Commission members called the tool a helpful process improvement and urged hyperlinks and easier calendar integration so users can click from an ordinance to the calendar event and committee materials. The clerk said staff capacity and website functionality will determine how quickly hyperlinks and a database back end can be added, but that the tracker will be posted as a first step and updated between meetings.
Commissioners asked that the tracker include the history of ordinance changes and committee recommendations so that users can follow how an ordinance evolved through hearings. The clerk said staff will continue development and post updated tracker materials on the borough website and in committee backup ahead of future meetings.
