The Brookline School Committee reorganized its leadership on May 13, electing Dr. Bob Weintraub as chair and Donna Perry as vice chair.
At the start of the meeting Town Clerk Ben Kaufman certified the results of the May 5 town election and said Suzanne Federspiel, Laura Catherine Baines Walsh and Faiza Khan had been elected to three-year terms and sworn in. The committee then opened nominations for chair.
Committee member Jesse Hefter nominated Dr. Bob Weintraub; Sarah Mochtar nominated Val Frias. After a roll-call vote the committee recorded a 5-4 decision electing Weintraub chair. "So congratulations to Bob," the presiding officer said after the tally was announced.
The committee then opened nominations for vice chair. Laura Catherine Baines Walsh nominated Donna Perry; the nomination was seconded and, after roll call, the committee elected Perry by a 9-0 vote.
The panel also appointed a secretary by roll call. New Chair Weintraub used his first remarks to thank outgoing leaders and to frame the committee's priorities, citing the recent override as a mandate to support teachers and school leaders.
The committee proceeded to the consent agenda and the superintendent's report after the reorganization.
