Council highlights summer safety, Route 30 patrols and juvenile‑gathering concerns

At the June 20 Absecon City Council meeting, Councilman D Rose said the police department has increased patrols on Route 30 and elsewhere to address higher pedestrian and bicycle traffic with children out of school. He urged drivers and parents to exercise caution and noted that enforcement and traffic‑safety efforts have generated positive feedback from residents.
“Please keep in mind to avoid any kind of tragedy…if you take a little few extra minutes of your day you will not find yourself in such a hurry,” Councilman D Rose said, urging drivers to slow down and observe curfews and safety guidance for juveniles.
He reported that the state offered additional grant funding for August to support the city’s enforcement efforts. Council members and others praised police, fire and EMS personnel for handling complex incidents and emphasized that excessive speed remains a primary contributor to recent serious crashes in the broader county.
Council direction: The council acknowledged the patrols and messaging and will continue to coordinate with the police department and Public Works on traffic‑calming and school‑safety measures ahead of the fall term.
