Colleen Yinora told council that repeated complaints about a neighboring property at 101–105 Jones Street have spanned years, including a documented record going back to 2009. She said the property has pigeon infestations and rodents and that prior enforcement resulted only in fines without sustained remediation.
"This didn't happen overnight," Yinora said, asking for a formal process to log complaints, follow up on enforcement actions and ensure abatement so pests do not migrate to neighboring homes.
Council members and staff acknowledged prior fines in 2016–2017 and said staff would follow up; Administrator Charles McCormack said city staff had been working on the situation and that he would begin administrative steps the next day to assess and proceed against the property, including boarding and sanitary remediation if necessary.
Next steps: administration committed to investigate the complaint records, confirm past enforcement actions, and advance abatement or boarding actions if the property is found to be unfit for habitation. Council urged timely follow-up to limit spread of pests to adjacent homes.
