The Town of Falmouth Select Board voted on April 6 to schedule the fall 2026 annual town meeting for Oct. 26, 2026, moving it a few weeks earlier than recent practice to allow additional time for the state tax-rate certification process.
Staff explained the change is intended to ease a compressed timeline between voting final appropriations in November and completing the Massachusetts Department of Revenue tax-rate certification, which requires extensive staff work. A staff speaker said moving the town meeting earlier “makes that timeline a little bit more comfortable,” and that the finance committee chair had indicated seven to eight weeks would be adequate for the committee’s review of capital projects.
Town moderator David Viera’s travel plans were discussed as a scheduling consideration. After discussion and a short review of the calendar, a motion to set the town meeting for Oct. 26, 2026 was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The transcript records the board’s scheduling decision but does not record individual roll-call vote tallies. Staff said a memo drafted by Peter will be sent to department heads to prepare for the scheduling change. The official Select Board announcement of the date will follow and the board expected to publish the full calendar in July when they typically issue the schedule.
