Boonton swears in two special officers and promotes a sergeant

Boonton held a swearing-in ceremony during its council meeting in which two new special law enforcement officers were sworn and a promotion was announced.
Sheriff James Ganon introduced the event, and retired Chief Brian Gurnie, who serves as the town’s public safety director, noted sustained hiring and promotion efforts within the department and an emphasis on leadership training. "We've really been working on that. I'm very proud of the success that we've had along the way," Gurnie said.
Three officers recited the oath of office. Jonah Lance swore to "support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of New Jersey" and to "impartially and justly perform all the duties of special law enforcement officer class 2 according to the best of my ability." A second officer, identified as Michael, repeated the class-2 SLEO oath. Christian Dansancy was sworn in as police sergeant and said he appreciated the council's and department's support.
Why it matters: The personnel actions expand and reorganize local law enforcement capacity and highlight the department’s training and leadership focus. The ceremony was ceremonial but marks official appointments and promotions recorded by the town.
