Fraser council approves park improvements and equipment purchases including gazebo roof, trash cans and epoxy garage floors

At its March 12 meeting, the Fraser City Council approved a package of park and facilities maintenance actions that staff said will prepare outdoor recreation areas for spring use and improve city maintenance operations.
Park maintenance and materials: City public-works staff explained that "diamond dust" (ground limestone) is commonly used on baseball infields for drainage and playability; the council authorized the diamond-dust purchase and discussed coordinating the application with forthcoming fence repairs so installations would not be disturbed.
Trash receptacles: Council approved replacing park trash receptacles with 51 (packet number) Brasco Super Saver units with lids, at the price shown in the meeting packet ($24,834.37). Members discussed capacity at busy parks and collection frequency; staff said crews empty high-use park receptacles daily or every other day during busy months and that additional cans could be added at parks such as Somerset where demand is higher.
Gazebo roof: Staff recommended awarding ACS Roofing $10,000 to replace shaker shingles on the Stephens Park gazebo roof. Council discussed a longer-lived metal roofing option and asked staff to investigate mockups and metal-shingle options in future reviews, but approved the $10,000 shaker-shingle replacement to complete pending repairs.
Epoxy public-works garage floors: The Department of Public Works proposed doing the epoxy work in-house to save labor costs and requested authorization to buy materials and rent equipment. Council authorized $18,694 for materials and allowed the city manager to approve up to $1,870 of additional costs (total authorization not to exceed approximately $20,000).
Votes and implementation: All motions passed on voice vote. Staff said fencing quotes are expected in April and that field preparation and materials delivery would be coordinated so work is completed for spring use. The city will proceed with ordering receptacles, materials and the gazebo roof work per the authorizations.
