Bernards Township honors youth award recipient, appoints volunteers and introduces another riparian easement ordinance

At its Sept. 23 meeting, the Bernards Township Committee presented the inaugural Sue Nobleman Inspiration Award to Logan Murphy, approved appointments to the volunteer fire company and first aid squad, and introduced Ordinance 2587 to accept a riparian easement on 33 North Finley Avenue for public hearing Oct. 28, 2025.
The Bernards Township Committee used its Sept. 23 meeting to recognize community service, confirm volunteer appointments and introduce another riparian conservation easement for later public review.
Committeewoman Anna Dwarte McCarthy presented Resolution 2025-0351 to commend Logan Murphy as the inaugural recipient of the Sue Nobleman Inspiration Award, highlighting his leadership with REACH, the Lindsey Meyer Teen Institute and the Youth Advisory Council. Committee members offered congratulations and Logan Murphy addressed the committee, saying he values community service and leadership.
The committee also approved two personnel appointments to township volunteer emergency services. Resolution 2025-0347 appointed Matthew Schmall as a full member of the Basking Ridge Fire Company No. 1 and Resolution 2025-034A appointed Tenley Jabinoski as a junior member of the township volunteer first aid squad. Both motions were moved, seconded and carried by roll call; the transcript records the roll-call support as "yes" from the members present.
Under new business the committee introduced Ordinance 2587 to accept a riparian conservation easement on property at 33 North Finley Avenue (Block 6008, Lot 3) and scheduled a public hearing for Oct. 28, 2025. Committee members noted they expect public comment from Nancy Dandrea and said they will review maps at the environmental commission meeting prior to that hearing.
During public comment a longtime attendee identified as Todd urged civility in public remarks and asked that campaign signs be placed with homeowners' permission to avoid obstructing sightlines. The committee closed public comment and advanced the consent agenda and remaining items before adjourning.
