Robert Bangs, introduced in the meeting as director, presented the public buildings materials and told commissioners, “This is our status report budget for the 2026-2027 year.” He outlined one-time needs including about $40,000 for flooring and painting at the UT USDA building and roughly $103,000 for roof repairs across county facilities, saying the “total one-time funds from capital project that I'm requesting is 143,000.” The body voted to approve the request.
Bangs also reported that a mandatory pre-bid for the veterans-class renovation drew three site visits but only one submitted bid. He said that lone bid totaled about $263,200 and that the project had been funded at $235,000, creating a shortfall; he asked commissioners for an additional $20,220 from capital projects to proceed. The commission approved the additional appropriation.
Separately, staff presented a status-quo operating budget for office supplies and operating expenses and explained some line reallocations were being made to cover higher Microsoft Office license costs and work to rebuild the county website to be fully ADA compliant. That operating budget was approved by the body.
A procedural exchange briefly followed the veterans-project approval: a member noted the additional funding request had been added to the meeting agenda late (noted in the meeting as added at 4:10 p.m. Tuesday) and was not on the budget committee agenda. Staff and members discussed timing and confirmed the item could proceed; no formal challenge to the vote was recorded.
