During the morning session the court called multiple cases and, after confirming the defendants did not answer the docket, issued a judge's warrant and remanded the defendants without bond in two matters where deputies reported no contact. The court also set a four-day jury trial beginning May 19 for Logan McBride and recorded plea-deadline or reset dates for several other defendants.
The judge emphasized courtroom procedures for approaching the clerk, interpreter needs when a defendant speaks a language other than English, and the court's move toward paperless filings. Counsel for various defendants sought additional time to complete discovery in cases involving missing phone extractions, potential DNA evidence and surveillance footage; the judge set a 45-day discovery period in at least one matter and additional short resets in others to allow counsel and investigators to gather evidence.
The court asked staff to coordinate referrals to mental-health court where appropriate and to ensure interpreters were available for deaf defendants, recalling at least one matter in three weeks so an ASL interpreter could be present. The docket recessed for lunch with the calendar to resume at 1:30 p.m.
