Animal shelter co-directors report donations, rescues and new partnerships

The co-directors reported 20 intakes and 24 outcomes for dogs in the previous month and said a combination of a $2,000 donation from Who Let the Dogs Out and an additional community contribution of $460 (with B Kane covering the balance) fully covered several surgeries. They described ongoing grant applications, new rescue partnerships (including a transport to Chicago and a rescue in Batavia), upcoming fundraisers (a shoe drive through May and a Spring Fling on April 25) and efforts to coordinate with other shelters statewide.
Staff said the shelter removed a dilapidated storage building and has placed a donated 20-foot cargo container for storage. Woody Graham and his wife (from Fleming County) were recognized for the container donation. Co-directors also discussed possible ordinance updates affecting adoption fees, with staff noting the existing ordinances did not clearly set a $40 adoption fee.
The co-directors encouraged continued outreach and reminded the court of scheduled events and the availability of a NexGard medication grant through a veterinary partner for flea and tick prevention.
