The Irondale City Council on April 7 approved Ordinance 2026-14 to rezone 2716 Mary Tyler Road from A1 (agricultural) to I1 (light industrial), clearing the way for an applicant seeking to operate an electrical-supply/warehouse business at the site.
Councilman Box said the applicant had inquired months earlier about establishing an electrical business and was advised that industrial zoning would be necessary. Planning staff reported that surrounding parcels already carried industrial zoning and the Planning & Zoning Commission unanimously recommended the change.
Council members asked staff about nearby residential parcels; planning staff said they had reviewed surrounding zoning and did not identify residential uses immediately adjacent on the map. The council approved the ordinance on second reading after a public hearing; the applicant may proceed with permitting consistent with the city’s development and building rules.
The rezoning was presented as part of the council’s broader effort to align zoning designations with existing land use and to support small-scale industrial and trade businesses in the area.
