Board adopts final resolution to reduce certificated staff after enrollment and budget review

The San Ramon Valley Unified School District Board of Education voted unanimously to adopt Resolution 71-2425, finalizing the decrease in certificated employees due to the reduction or elimination of particular kinds of services, Assistant Superintendent Melanie Jones said.
Jones told trustees the district followed applicable education code requirements, including required timelines, notice periods and seniority-based considerations under Education Code sections 44949 and 44955. "With sincere regret, staff submits resolution 71-24-25 for the board's consideration and approval as legally required," she said.
Trustees asked whether the reductions were driven more by declining enrollment or by budget-reduction plans. Meredith Bulock, the district’s director of certificated human resources, told the board elementary declining enrollment was about 20 FTE when the district last ran numbers (before March notices), and that at the time secondary/high school figures were between 10 and 12 FTE. She said the budget reduction plan affected additional positions but that enrollment declines were an important underlying factor.
Board member Jesse Vanzy moved to approve Resolution 71-2425; board member Susanna Ordoy seconded. A roll call vote recorded unanimous yes votes and the motion passed 5-0.
Bulock and Jones said figures continue to shift with resignations, retirements and changes in site funding; the district did not read exact Attachment A counts aloud and said Attachment A remains the administrative record of affected positions.
