Superintendent outlines strategic-planning kickoff for Pleasantville Union Free School District

The Pleasantville Union Free School District superintendent said the district will begin a new strategic-planning process immediately and will reach out to parents, staff, students and community members to define a local "portrait of a graduate." "I'll be including information on strategic planning in each of my superintendent's reports going forward," the superintendent said.
District leaders intend to assess the previous strategic plan, work within New York State guidance known as New York Inspires, and tailor expectations to Pleasantville students. The superintendent said the process will use surveys and direct focus groups as initial steps and will balance statutory requirements, the district's tax base and student demographics while allowing local latitude on priorities.
Alongside the planning announcement, the superintendent highlighted recent student activities and staff professional development: third- and fourth-grade teachers at BRS received professional support from Apple; a visiting assembly featuring Guinness World Record holder and former Harlem Globetrotter "Corey the Dribbler" emphasized respect and goal-setting; and the middle school staged Legally Blonde Jr. The superintendent also noted that modified sports began on Monday and congratulated students, staff and families involved in spring athletics.
The superintendent reported Pleasantville students and faculty participated in the Saving Civics Education Conference at Long Island University Hudson on March 27, joining a panel with local elected officials to discuss civics instruction. The high school's Gender Sexuality Alliance attended a PrideWorks leadership conference, and the Pleasantville High School National Honor Society held an induction on March 26.
The superintendent closed by recognizing Ashley O'Hara, Michael Pinkava and Greg Fondy for their work during National Assistant Principal Week and thanked the school community. Next steps: the superintendent will begin stakeholder outreach immediately and will provide regular updates in future superintendent reports.
