The Auburn Planning Board voted to forward a favorable recommendation to city council to rezone about 27 acres of airport‑owned properties (the Roundy parcel and 185 Foster Road) from suburban/low‑density residential to the industrial district.
Staff said the airport sought the change to eliminate split zoning and reduce potential land‑use conflicts near airport operations, to comply with FAA grant‑related compatibility expectations, and to preserve the airport’s ability to pursue future development. Jonathan Labonte, the city’s transportation director and Auburn Lewiston Municipal Airport director, explained the parcels are airport‑owned, that one parcel previously contained a residence and the other was acquired from the Auburn Business Development Corporation, and that rezoning would align airport holdings with industrial use and reduce incompatible residential adjacency.
No members of the public offered comment during the hearing. The board opened public comment for the required hearing and, finding none, voted to recommend the rezoning back to city council.
