Health Department reallocates grant funds to support workforce development

The BET budget committee approved HD7, a Health Department request to transfer grant funds to support workforce development and staff training through the grant period ending in 2027.
Caroline Basley, Department Head for Health, told the committee the grant was not affected by recent federal grant pullbacks and that the department revised the budget to prioritize coordination and staffing for training. "This was the first grant that the department got for preservation just for staff and not the public," she said, explaining that many training options are free or reduced and that the realignment will fund a coordinator and temporary services.
Committee members asked whether the changes would alter the proposed FY27 operating budget. Basley and Deborah, the department operations administrator, said the transfer only affects grant funds and does not change the town’s operating requests for FY27. The presenters also explained that the department expects to return any unspent grant funds at expiry if they are not expended.
Following discussion, the committee voted to approve the transfer request. Presenters will continue to manage training allocations within the grant and report as required by the grant terms.
